13 April 2018. Team SA Rhythmic Gymnastics duo, Grace Legote and Chris-Marie van Wyk both gave solid performances at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. The young ladies both qualified for the Rhythmic Gymnastics Individual All-Around Final which was held on Day 2 at the Coomera Indoor Sports Centre.
Grace Legote’s total score of 42.650 after the four apparatus in the Individual All-Around Qualification, secured her a qualification spot of 14th for the Individual All-Around Final. This African Champion not only made it for the Individual All-Around Final, she also qualified to compete in 8th spot for the Ball Apparatus Final. On Friday 13th April, Grace performed well enough to score a 12.150 in the Ball Finals and improve her final ranking to 7th spot.
Following just after Grace was Chris-Marie van Wyk, who snatched the qualifying spot of 16th for the Individual All-Around Final. Having retained her spot and finishing 16th place in the Individual All-Around Final with total score of 36.550, this talented gymnast said, “I will treasure this experience forever. There were many ups and downs but I still made it to the Gold Coast 2018.”
South African Gymnastics Federation (SAGF) congratulates Team SA gymnasts, and all the coaches and judges involved in the fantastic performances of the RSA gymnasts at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
