10 April 2018. The South African Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Team consisting of Naveen Daries and Claudia Cummins, recently competed in the Artistic Gymnastics competition at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
The South African gymnasts competed well during the Qualification round and their sound performances ensured that they both qualified for the Individual All Round competition. Claudia qualified in 13th position and Naveen qualified in 15th position.
Unfortunately, Team SA was dealt a double blow when Claudia sustained an injury to her knee and Naveen to her hamstring resulting in both girls having to retire from the event injured.
Both young ladies did themselves, and South Africa, proud in their qualifications round. After the many hours spent training for the Commonwealth Games, it is devastating to have to end their quest in this manner. We wish the girls all the best in their rehabilitation and trust that we will see them back in the gym soon.
Thanks are extended to judges Debbie Gordon, Jannie Janse van Vuuren and Christo Malan for their support of the team and to Ilse Pelser, the team coach for a job well done.
