Team SA ready for the 36th Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships | 2018 SOFIA

06 September 2018. The 36th FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships kicks off from the 10th – 16th September 2018, in the Arena Armeec Sofia in Bulgaria’s capital.

More than 350 gymnasts from approximately 60 nations will be battling for honours in individual events (All-around, Hoop, Ball, Clubs and Ribbon) as well as a Team competition.

This year, South Africa will be represented by four Senior Rhythmic gymnasts, one coach and a judge.

These gymnasts been selected based on their performance at the trials (25th – 26th May 2018 KSG, Klerksdorp) and in accordance with the Selection Policy which was circulated prior to the trial competition.

 

TEAM SA Gymnasts for 2018 RG World Championships

Lilica Burger | 2018 TEAM SA RG World Champs gymnast

Lilica Burger who came first at the 2017 SA Gym Games (Juniors All-Around), has already competed this year at the 14th African Championships (Egypt). This will be her first RG World Championships.

Lilica will compete in the Individual Competition on the following apparatus:

  • Hoop
  • Ball
  • Clubs

Erin Wakefield | 2018 TEAM SA RG World Champs gymnast

Erin Wakefield, bronze medallist at the 2017 SA Gym Games (Seniors All-Around), will wear the green and gold for the first time when she competes in the following apparatus:

  • Hoop
  • Ribbon

Shannon Gardiner | 2018 TEAM SA RG World Champs gymnast

Shannon Gardiner, the most senior and experienced South African gymnast at this event will compete on the following apparatus:

  • Hoop
  • Ball
  • Clubs

Palesa Mohlamme | 2018 TEAM SA RG World Champs gymnast

Palesa Mohlamme (National Champion – Seniors All Around) who tied first with Chris-Marie van Wyk at the 2017 SA Gym Games, is the fourth Team SA member of the 2018 RG World Championships. This will also be the first time Palesa will wear green and gold.  She will compete on:

  • Ball
  • Ribbon

 

Tatiana Lavrenchuk-Vizer is the Senior Coach for the RG Worlds, with Maureen van Rooyen representing South Africa as judge.
