21 February 2018. The South African Rhythmic gymnasts recently participated at their 1st International tournaments for the year 2018, the tournaments included:
- 16th International Rhythmic Gymnastics Tournament – Gracia Fair Cup, 16th – 18th February 2018 in Budapest (Pestszentimrei Sportkastély venue).
- International Senior & Junior R.G. Tournament (Alina Cup), 17th – 18th February 2018 in Moscow (Sports Palace of the Olympic Complex “Luzhniki”).
- Grand Prix Moscow 2018, 17th – 18th February 2018 in Moscow (Sports Palace of the Olympic Complex “Luzhniki”).
The 1st Rhythmic gymnastics International tournament for 2018 was the 2018 Gracia Fair Cup held in Budapest. The SA Ryhthmic Team included four junior gymnasts Claurette Oosthuizen, Azra Dewan, Kiera Rowland, Elminda van der Merwe and one senior, Shannon Gardiner.
In the Gracia Fair Cup junior tournament, SA’s Azra posted the highest score of the South African contingent and secured an All-Around score of 37.033, finishing in 30th position.
Claurette had an overall ranking of 43rd , Elminda followed with an overall ranking of 44th while Kiera came 46th in their section.
In the Seniors competition, Shannon Gardiner had an overall ranking of 31st with final score of 41.733.
Following the Gracia Fair Cup was the International Senior & Junior R.G. Tournament (Alina Cup) and the Grand Prix Moscow 2018 . Chris-Marie van Wyk competed in the Alina Cup and finished in 32nd place All-Around.
South Africa’s and African rhythmic champion, Grace Legote, competed in the Grand Prix Moscow tournament where she finished in 26th place with an All-Around final score of 51.100.
