Figure 1 Olympic Hopes Cup 2019

03 December 2019. The South African Team participated at the Olympic Hopes Cup LIBEREC held from the 28th – 30th November 2019 at the Sport Park Liberec Gymnastics Hall. This artistic gymnastics international competition sees young gymnasts from all over the world, and the South African Team was represented by the following gymnasts:

Women’s Artistic Gymnastics

  • Isabella Bottger, Tyde Cooper, Shante Koti, Garcelle Napier, Phiwe Nhleko and Jasmin Pillay


  • WAG Coach: Leeland Christian
  • WAG Personal Coach: Louis Fourie
  • WAG Judge: Lindsay Buckley
  • Ryan Bloy (Female Chaperone)


Men’s Artistic Gymnastics

  • Andrew Flynn, Luke James, Daniel Mclean, Nakar Noa Strike and Ruan Lange

MAG Officials:

  • Coach: Kevin Basson
  • Judge: Bobby Budai


Figure 2 Phiwe Mangaliso Nhleko | 2nd Place Uneven Bars

In the Women’s Artistic competition, South Africa’s gymnast Phiwe Mangaliso Nhleko won Silver medal on Uneven Bars. This young gymnast came 2nd place on FINAL – Uneven Bars with total score of 11.93, she was the only gymnast who qualified to compete at the apparatus finals for Bars.


Figure 3 Luke James | 1st Place MEN Vault

In the Men’s Artistic Gymnastics competition, the gymnast Luke James won Gold medal on Vault. This young gymnast came 1st place on FINAL – Vault Men, Luke James was crowned Vault apparatus Champion with his vault scoring of 13.475.
