09 July 2018. In close cooperation with the FIG Academy Program, SAGF hosted the 10th FIG Foundation Course in Polokwane, Limpopo Province from 23rd -28th June 2018.
The Foundations of Gymnastics courses are an evolution from the Gymnastics for All courses that have been held around the world. Foundations of Gymnastics is completely updated to include the most contemporary knowledge, to include introductory coaching competence in each of the FIG gymnastics disciplines; and to serve as a pre-cursor for the FIG Academies.
Six Southern African country, who are affiliated members of FIG were invited with 3 people to attend. However the hosting country, South Africa were given a total number of 15 candidates.
It was the first time SAGF decentralised their venue to enhance the growth of a smaller province in South Africa and to use this opportunity to promote recreational gymnastics.

Opening evening: 23 June 2018
The welcome function was held at Kings Castle Guest House with a traditional “ braai” (barbeque) with open fire and singing of some traditional songs by the participants.

Venue: Zani’ s Gymnastics Academy, Dorp Street, Polokwane
A total of 31 candidates from Region 5 (or so-called Zone 3 in FIG terminology) countries took part in this prestigious event to receive an International Gymnastics for All Coaching Certificate. South Africa was represented by 20 participants from 9 provinces including school’s gymnastics leaders, SAGF development hub coaches and beginner coaching course facilitators.
Angola did not take part resulting RSA to enter more candidates from the waiting list. The other four countries: Namibia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Swaziland each entered 3 participants to learn more advanced skills for the implementation of recreational and educational gymnastics for the further development of physical education and fundamental movement in Southern Africa.
