Anne Vermaak (Western Cape Gymnastics Association President)

02 January 2018. The South African Gymnastics Federation had great honor of having one of it’s members, invited by the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique or International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) to the launch of the GFA Disability Project. Anne Vermaak, a member of the SAGF Inner Executive Committee, was recently invited to the Disability Symposium that took place from the 25th – 28th January 2018 in London (UK).

The main aim of this symposium, driven by the Gymnastics For All Committee, was to discuss how best to ensure integration of all gymnasts into the gymnastics programme, irrespective of gender, age, abilities or cultural background.  The symposium included both practical and theoretical sessions, where ideas on how best to include gymnasts with disabilities in gymnastics were discussed.

It was a great privilege for SAGF to be able to have a voice at this symposium and we look forward to growing the number of gymnasts with disabilities in our sport.

It was noted that “The outcomes of this meeting will be presented to the FIG Executive Committee and also at the upcoming GfA Colloquium in Ottawa (CAN) April, 25-29.

SA Gymnastics extends it’s appreciation to FIG for allowing Anne to participate at this fantastic initiative.
