On Friday, 2nd November 2018 the inaugural Gymnastics Foundation gala event was well attended and enjoyed by many SA gymnastics legends and stalwarts.
The evening was MC’d by Tseko Mogotsi (SAGF CEO) and hosted by Piet Albertyn (Working Committee) who explained the vision, mission and objectives of the Gymnastics Foundation of SA (GFSA).
Martin Cowper (ABSA VP) paid a moving tribute to Ron Froehlich (Honorary Life President of the International World Games Association) who has so graciously agreed to be the patron for this Foundation. The highlight of the evening was Ron’s incredibly generous donation of R125 000 towards the investment fund of the Foundation. His challenge to every single one of us was to follow suit in the spirit of giving back to our most beautiful sport.
Elizabeth Cameron-Smith (SAGF President) accepted the trophy awarded to Ron, on his behalf in his absence, and closed off the formalities with words of thanks.
She also shared the very exciting news that SAGF has been nominated as National Federation of the year at the 2018 SA Sports Awards and that Bianca Zoonekynd was nominated as Sportswoman of the year (2017 Ladies World Champion in double-mini trampoline). The winners are expected to be announced on SABC 1 on Sunday 11th November at 9pm. We congratulate Tseko and his team, as well as Bianca for these nominations. This is already such a high achievement and honour for gymnastics SA.
We want to convey special thanks to:
- Ronel Cronje for the beautiful photographs of the gala event.
- Kobus Scheepers for his donation of a special reserve wine as part of the fundraising.
- Gissy Collard (Wine of the Month club) for his donation of 12 bottles of wine for the cocktail party.
- SAGF for providing the venue
- The lovely Rhythmic gymnasts from TUKS who performed for us.
