The 2014 Youth Olympic Games take place in Nanjing, China,16-28 August 2014. The Gymnastics Competition at the Games will feature the disciplines of Artistic Men & Women, Rhythmic Gymnastics and Trampoline.
3 South African Gymnasts have qualified to take part at the Games:
Mammule Rankoe (GAU) – Artistic Women
Muhammed Khaalid Mia (GAU) – Artistic Men
Shannon Gardiner (GAU) – Rhythmic Gymnastics
Spots in Africa are allocated for only 4 Women’s Artistic Gymnasts, 4 Men’s Artistic Gymnasts and 3 Rhythmic Gymnasts. These gymnasts need to fall within a specific age category to qualify, namely:
- Men Artistic gymnastics: 16 – 17 years (born between 01.01.1997 and 31.12.1998)
- Women Artistic gymnastics: 15 years (born between 01.01.1999 and 31.12.1999)
- Rhythmic gymnastics: 15 years (born between 01.01.1999 and 31.12.1999)
- Trampoline gymnastics: 16 – 17 years (born between 01.01.1997 and 31.12.1998)
*No South African Trampoline gymnast attained the qualifying criteria.
