The inaugural event to be held at the SANDTON CONVENTION CENTRE IN JOHANNESBURG promises a Sport Festival like no other in South Africa.
The Arnold Festival South Africa will bring to Johannesburg an expected 30,000 attendees across a wide range of sporting codes, coaches, families and supporters, 10,000 athletes of which at least 5,000 are expected to be youth athletes.
Gymnastics will be one of the sporting codes participating at the Arnold Classic.
The South African Gymnastics Federation (SAGF) is the governing body for gymnastics in the geographic bounds of South Africa.
The SAGF governs 9 disciplines: Men’s Artistic Gymnastics, Women’s Artistic Gymnastics, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Trampoline Gymnastics which includes Tumbling, Aerobic Gymnastics, Acrobatic Gymnastics, Rope Skipping, Gym for All, and Schools Gymnastics. SAGF is affiliated to the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), the African Gymnastic Union (UAG, Sports and Recreation South Africa (SRSA) and the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC).
GYMNASTICS AT THE ARNOLD CLASSIC
The Arnold Classic Africa will see participation from the gymnastics disciplines of Acrobatic and Aerobic Gymnastics. The Acrobatic Gymnastics Competition will take place on Saturday, 27 May 2016. The Acrobatic Gymnastics Competition will take place on Saturday, 27 May 2016.
Acrobatic Gymnastics Competition
Acrobatic gymnastics will see gymnasts perform intricate gymnastic balances and dynamic throws in the air. These routines also include dance movements which have been choreographed to the style of music selected.
Acrobatic Gymnastics perform in either pairs or groups. In each partnership, you have a base partner and a top partner. With groups you have 2 base partners and 1 top partner. The Acrobatic Gymnastic routines are judged according to artistry, execution and difficulty of the skills performed.
All levels of Acrobatic Gymnastics will be on display at the Arnold Classic. 150 gymnasts will partake in the Acrobatic Gymnastics Competition.
The Acrobatic Gymnastics Competition will see performances from:
- Women’s pair (two females)
- Men’s pair (two males)
- Mixed pair (a male base and a female top)
- Men’s group (three females)
- Men’s group (four males)

Aerobic Gymnastics Competition
The Aerobic Gymnastics is the ability to perform continuous, complex, high intensity movement patterns to music. Aerobic Gymnasts require great strength, co-ordination, flexibility and explosive power to perform the high energy routine.
The Aerobic Gymnastics Competition will comprise of levels 1 & 2. Approximately 100 gymnasts will partake in this competition.

Competition (1st Session) 10.30am 12.30 pm
Lunch 12.30 to 13.15 pm
Competition (2nd Session) 13.30pm to 15.30pm
Prize-giving Medal Ceremony 4pm (4 Gold, 4 Silver, 4 Bronze)

Rope Skipping Performances
There will be adhoc Rope skipping performances during the Arnold Classic. Rope skippers will perform dynamic, explosive, intricate displays of freestyle and double-dutch. These performances are not to be missed!
