12 June 2020. I would like to thank all our clubs, disciplines, district and provincial structures for being so patient, compliant and positive during these unprecedented and challenging times. The “Directions” for sport contained in Government Gazette 43434 was issued by the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Minister Mthethwa, yesterday 11 June 2020. Through these directions many coaches can return to our gyms across the country. More importantly, these “Directions” clear the way for many of our registered members to return to the place they love.
It is imperative for clubs to understand that this does not mean you can simply open. I implore you to ensure you get your paperwork completed, submitted and only once you receive your COVID19 Safe Certificate you may open your doors to members who are registered as either Category A, B, C or E. The Federation is also committed to hosting safe events, but only in later months, for now we need to concentrate on training. When each club returns it is up to all of us to work together. Today we are beginning to issue clubs with compliance certificates in accordance to the SAGF Risk Mitigation strategy. Many hours of work have gone into our risk mitigation strategy and I must sincerely thank all our staff for the hard work they put into this.
Our strategy is not compliance driven. Our strategy is aimed at keeping our coaches, parents and gymnasts safe and to curb the spread of the pandemic. The hard work of everybody will mean nothing if we don’t adhere to all the measures put in place. I appeal to all members of gymnastics to work together so that we can return to our new normal as soon as humanly possible and welcome all our members back into the gym.
Be assured of our ongoing support to assist you in whatever way we can. We are about to make further deposits from the SAGF Covid Relief fund to the Provinces for the clubs. Do not hesitate to reach out through your provincial structures and continue in this joint fight against the invisible enemy of COVID19. I wish you strength at this time.
